Actress Olivia Munn from HBO’s “Newsroom” series, which is about to enter its second season, was seen around Hollywood in her Chevrolet Volt recently.
We’re thinking General Motors couldn’t be happier.
Munn gets props for owning (or we assume she owns) a Volt, the first gas-electric hybrid in the U.S. But since the Volt’s launch nearly three years ago, General Motors, as well as many other automakers of electric models, has had difficulty selling them.
Now GM has taken to offering incentives to boost Volt sales and move inventory before production begins on the 2014 model. Last week, the Detroit automaker cut $5,000 off the price of 2012 Volts, and $4,000 off 2013s. Until July 1, the Volt is available with 0% financing for 48 months, or $269 a month for 36 months with $2,399 at signing.
Volt sales through last month were 1.4% higher — to 7,157 units — year-over-year, although its three-month sales have compared to the same timeframe last year.
While it’s a bit of a waiting game to see if consumers take to GM’s current Volt incentives, GM can vouch that it has at least one fan in Hollywood. And a little Hollywood couldn’t hurt.
